If you are employed by a Council, (such as Redcar and Cleveland, Middlesbrough, Hartlepool or Stockton), and you have a contract of employment which is for three months or more, you should automatically be entered in to the Local Government Pension Scheme.
The same can be said for some other scheme employers such as colleges, universities (for non teaching staff only), and some parish councils.
If you do not have a contract for three months or more, or are employed by an employer who has admitted body status within the Teesside Pension Fund, then you will have to opt to join the scheme if you wish to be a member.
