PLEASE NOTE: If you decide to continue your employment past your normal retirement age, your membership of the LGPS will cease once you attain the age of 75 and you must take your benefits at this point’.

If you have a contract of employment that is for at least 3 months and are under age 75, you will automatically be made a member of LGPS 2014 (with the right to opt out), unless:

  • You are employed by a designating body, usually a Town or Community Council, where you can only join if your employer nominates you for membership of the Scheme, or
  • You are an employee of an admitted body, where you have to elect to join

If your contract is for less than 3 months, you will not be automatically enrolled into the Scheme but you can opt to join if you wish.

If you contract is initially for less than 3 months, but is subsequently extended to be for a period of 3 months or more, if you are under age 75, you will be enrolled into the Scheme from the first day of the pay period following the contract extension (with the right to opt out).
